Cottesmore Rutland Village

Cottesmore Village Rutland

Cottesmore is a village in the north of the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. In terms of population it is the largest village in Rutland, and the third-largest settlement after Oakham and Uppingham. This is due in part to the presence of RAF Cottesmore.

Oakham CCTV Failure

Tesco Oakham recently paid for an extra CCTV camera
to be fitted and connected to Oakham's CCTV system.
The anti social behaviour still continues around Tesco
Once again the childrens tiles were smashed outside the
store. The camera appears to bo no deterant.
A engineer was spotted adjusting the camera this morning so once
again I can only guess it was looking at the pavement.

Why are both councils still paying for this service?
A service that  has brought no benefit to the town.
A councillor told me there has been no prosecutions aided by
CCTV evidence and council property is often damaged and the camera
was found to be pointing to the sky or the wrong way!

The only people in my view to benefit is a subsidary of  Chubb Security

Rutland CCTV group
are plannimg to spend a further
£26,500 this year on new equipment

Victorian Oakham Rope making in the work houses

During the times of the Victorian work houses rope was made in  Oakham.

A lady from English Heritage was interested to know if the hooks  used to dry the ropes were still fixed to town buildings.

I asked at the Rutland County Museum as normal they know nothing!

I took a look around town and spotted on three buildings a number of these old hooks does anyone know if these would be the hooks used?
