Meet Your Rutland County Councillor and Town Councillors Rutland Times Correction

Councillor Alan Walters  choked on his Cheerio's as he read this mornings Rutland Times.

He had become a Conservative overnight according to the paper, a quick coffee later he confirms its a typo!

He is still very much Independent.

Many people locals know, Mr Walters was often dressed in his red tie. He hung this up at the recent elections, he told me there are  no immediate plans to nip out and purchase a blue tie.

Councillor Walters is holding his first surgery at Victoria Hall this weekend from 10.00am - noon

He is very keen to see as many people as possible who may wish to make him aware of any issue that effect them.

He is keen to ensure that the Council works in a professional and businesslike manner and that the people of Oakham are able to benefit from improved services following the increased responsibility being afforded to the Council through local accountability. He also intends to work hard to forge close working relationships with local partners.
Alf is particularlyin helping the town and its traders to overcome the effects of the closure of RAF Cottesmore and HMP Ashwell by enhancing Rutland's reputation as a tourist attraction. He is also eager to improve local facilities for young people and the poor perception of anti social behaviour.

Burley Road, Residents Nights of Hell, Oakham Drinkers Trash anything on route

Burley Road and other in Oakham have been suffering from weeks of late night anti social behaviour.

One resident spoke at a recent police meeting held at Rutland County Council, He lives in Burley Road and complained his entire hedge was ripped up and chucked into the road. Inspector Monks said he was aware of an increased problem in Oakham caused by late night drinking, he had requested extra resources. We were told there would be four officers on patrol instead of the normal two. Above is the result of Friday nights activities a Porto Loo is trashed and safety fencing has obstructed a main pedestrian route into town since.

Another resident told me the Road has steadily become worse, since moving to what he thought was a quiet town from Stamford, his nights have been disturbed for many years now by cars racing in the Burley Road Car Park and sounding their horns till the early hours of the morning.

Traffic lights have been trashed and fencing surrounding dangerously deep excavations have been removed

Land for sale!

One of Oakham's few remaining green fields is to be sold.

Some time ago I blogged my thoughts about this and suggested The public and Town Council purchase the land. Its a big project and not one that is not possible.

On Monday the Town Council will be asked its view.

It may be possible to claim various grants.

I believe there is enough support for saving this green field for the communtiy.

Oakham Festival 2011, Photographs

Oakham Festival have requested No Photography! a special request was sent to Oakham Town Council requesting Cllr Martin Brookes does not photograph any festival events, silly festival forgot Oakham Town Council sponsors a number of free events so they  had to add admission would be granted to non ticket holders for these free events.

I have no intention of photographing any of this years events which are mainly attended by friends of the festival, looking at the photographs in today's Rutland Times its a good job I chose not to go all the way up to Uppingham. I had a much more enjoyable day elsewhere.

I am hoping to find something more interesting to photograph, the public don't need to see festival committee members downing free booze again.

Today saw the launch of the first festival

Oakham Ales Inferno, this is the Marks & Spencer Chicken of the Beer World, I am not suggesting it tastes of Chicken! The company is based in Peterborough Cambridgeshire. I believe the Ale is still brewed in Peterborough.

I would like to make it very clear to CAMRA.

I do not dislike your organisation. My previous post clearly states my concerns were related to the venue allocated to you by Rutland County Council.

I hope your fee will help to recover some of the £16,000 loss the museum incurred last year. Something Rutland County Council tried to hide from the public.

Until this post I had not mentioned on my blog anything about complimentary tickets or gifts to Rutland County Councillors or its staff. I did publish any details relating to the offer admission for Rutland County Councils Communications Officer. This was confined to a email and one of the recipients has made the content public knowledge.

I have no problem with Camra offering free tickets, the problem I do have is when the council is losing so much tax payers money running this venue they appear to be happy to accept freebies even though a freedom of information request answer came back clearly stating all Councillor and Staff always pay for event held at the museum.

I hope the event goes well for CAMRA and not to many exhibits are trashed and there is no serious trouble like there was at Liddington.

The Local Police won't mind me reminding visitor its there Road Safety Week and I believe the total amount of Drink Drivers arrested so far has passed 50!

And my critics always ask why I call them drunks I think the figures speak for themselves.

I am hoping the police will catch a few high profile driver leaving Oakham to expose this serious problem we have here in Rutland.

I was pleased to read in today's Rutland Times one Rutland's Pubs has signed up to a new scheme to provide free drinks for the nominated driver. A scheme set up in memory of a very young man who was killed by a drunk driver on one of Rutland's Roads.  Cllr Martin Brookes
