Rutland council wants sports clubs and community groups to use the gym, which would not be open to the general public.

The council wants sports clubs and community groups to use the gym, which would not be open to the general public.

Public money was used to purchase the former Ashwell Prison site. It reminds me of last year when
Oakham Town Council spent a quarter of its income from public money setting up a private gym.

Tory Deputy leader told Councillors the Ministry of Justice had left a fully equipped gym and sports facility and people were waiting to use it.

Now according to press report a further £500,000 of public money from  Sport England is required to bring it up to a standard so that private clubs and community groups can use it.

There are no plans to introduce a pay and play facility for the public.
