Conservative Leader Cllr Terry King is to take an extended leave of absence from his role as Leader of Rutland County Council and Ward Member for Exton, due to ill health.

Rutland County Council do not say how long Cllr King is to be absent.

I wish him well, but realistically I don't think his health will improve.

I am concerned that Rutland Council has issued a statement suggesting that officers (staff)
will carry out his Cllrs duties.

People elect Councillors not staff and so often Cllrs are called on when staff have failed
residents.

Cllr King should retire and I guess he will once the Conservatives have found a candidate and
set the date for a new year election.

People in politics will be watching this one carefully, because this time I am told no one
is going to fall for the Tory dirty tricks that saw Nick Begy get elected unopposed after
his father died who was also the leader.

People were asked not to contest the seat until after a period of time after his death and
people missed the notices, but not the Tories who had asked for compassion to be shown
after Roger Begy's death. In my opinion and others it was a terrible dirty Tory trick
supported by the Tory CEO Helen Briggs.

Council Leader Terry King

Thursday 22nd December 2016

Councillor Terry King is to take an extended leave of absence from his role as Leader of Rutland County Council and Ward Member for Exton, due to ill health.
Cllr King has had a suspected stroke and will take time away from the Council to undergo treatment and recover.

Cllr King said: “I regret that I must step away from Council business, albeit temporarily, but have taken this decision in the best interests of my health and for my family. Interim arrangements will not disrupt the running of the Council and I know that Officers and Elected Members will continue to do an outstanding job for Rutland under the acting leadership of Councillor Tony Mathias. I would now ask for privacy for both myself and my family in the weeks ahead.”

Cllr Tony Mathias takes on the role of Acting Leader with immediate effect and said: “We fully understand and support Cllr King’s decision and wish him all the very best as he undergoes treatment. We will do all that we can to support both him and his family going forward. In the meantime, all Council business will continue as normal and Officers at the Council will handle any Ward business for Exton until Cllr King’s return.”

If you live in Exton Ward and need to contact the Council regarding an issue, please email: enquiries@rutland.gov.uk or call: 01572 722 577.

Rutland County Council have not yet issued a formal statement.

It is said Cllr Terry King may have suffered a stroke.

My thoughts are with his family,

Cllr King has not been in good health since the death of the
previous Conservative Leader. Throughout his illness he has battled on.
