Philip Dawson, Art Exhibition, Favourite Haunts, Paintings of Rutland and Beyond, Victoria Hall Oakham

Philip Dawson, Art Exhibition, Favourite Haunts, Paintings of Rutland and Beyond, Victoria Hall Oakham

Until Sunday 12th May 2013, some interesting works to go and see or buy.

As Oakham Town Council do not not own this gallery Leicestershire police had no objections to me visiting
Victoria Hall. So the trash who keep calling them in an attempt to get me locked up for breach of bail don't need to call them.

Rutwel Art Exhibition, Victoria Hall Oakham

Rutwel Art Exhibition, Victoria Hall Oakham

A Rutland group providing support for people with learning disabilities has organised a special art exhibition to celebrate their first anniversary.

RUTWEL, a group created by Rutland County Council and based at Victoria Hall in Oakham, provides opportunities for work, education and leisure activities.

The group was set up in October 2011 and is open every day of the working week, with as many as 10 people attending each day.

Staff at RUTWEL help people gain employment, put themselves forward for volunteering opportunities, as well as participate in education and leisure interests.

Roger Begy Tory Leader Right.

Council Leader Roger Begy: “Groups such as RUTWEL are not always the most high profile, but they are some of the most important services that the council delivers.  It’s important we do all we can for those members of our community that need that little bit of extra support.  I’m delighted that the group has gone from strength to strength during the last 12 months and wish them every success in the future.”

Roger Begy added: “I’d urge everyone to visit Victoria Hall this week and view the art on display. It’s absolutely brilliant and I highly recommend it.”

An exhibition of art work produced by RUTWEL members opened to the public on Monday 1 October.  It remains open until Friday 5 October, opening each day between 10.00 and 4.00pm.
To find out more about what RUTWEL does and to get in touch with the team please contact Rutland County Council on 01572 722 577.

Victoria Hall Oakham Locks Out Disabled, Finds Rutland Access Group

Victoria Hall Oakham Locks Out Disabled, Finds Rutland Access Group

It was reported to Oakham Town Council last night.

Cllr Lockett represent the Town Council on the committee of The Rutland Access Group

He reported to the council some of the committees findings

The most serious concern was the locking of the side access both the door and gate during the day, which is marked as disabled access .

This could explain why there is no indication to disabled users at the front door.

It surprises me the Victoria Hall Committee don't make this a priority. Instead of worrying about some
Artists dislike of the disabled tenants from Out of the Rut.

Surely a user urinating in the gallery adds to the art?

The continual blocking of dropped kerbs by inconsiderate motorists was raised.

I understand Rutland County Council is to issue £70 tickets to anyone parking in front of dropped kerbs form now.

Victoria Hall Oakham

Victoria Hall Oakham given to the people of Oakham.

Held in trust for the people of Oakham.

The venue is  used for many events organisers who can afford to hire.

The Town Council pays over £12,000 year to base its offices in the building.

Whilst Oakham Town Table Tennis club and other groups have to hire other venues outside Oakham.

Artists use the venue to show there work, the hall takes their fee and provides no security, basic security is often ignored by Rutland County Council staff who also rent offices they frequently leave the doors unlocked when they go home.

The toilets are now not available to the public during art exhibitions artist are expected to provide signs stating this to members of the public.

And not even on the

The people of Oakham should not forget
Victoria Hall
is belongs to them not the trustees

That is why they are called trustees and not owners!
