A Christmas Carol read by Mr Charles Dickens Uppingham Theatre

7 December at 19:30–22:00

Uppingham Theatre

Tickets Available

A Christmas Carol was the first public performance Charles
Dickens gave of his own work.

He enacted it over 150 times and the effect on the public was phenomenal. ‘The success was most wonderful and prodigious – perfectly overwhelming and astounding altogether!’ he said after the first night.

This Christmas, you can experience what it must have been like to be in the audience! European Arts Company is faithfully recreating Dickens’ famous performance of his best-loved and most heart-warming story.

Come and enjoy a seasonal treat in the spirit of Christmas past, present and future.

“I am as light as a feather, I am as happy as an angel, I am as merry as a school-boy. I am as giddy as a drunken man. A merry Christmas to everybody! A Happy New Year to all the world!”

(In support of the children’s charity Barnardo’s)

Prospero and his daughter have been wronged, set adrift in the Mediterranean by a usurping sibling and a rival king.

They have lived on a deserted island for 12 years...well, almost deserted. When fate brings his enemies sailing past the island, Prospero decides to take matters into his own hands.

What follows is a story of love, freedom and the consequences of heavy drinking.

A storm is about to descend...brave the elements and witness a company of four actors romping through this magical comedy. This fresh adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic stays entirely faithful to the original text, whilst offering a riotous departure from the norm. Following last year’s critically acclaimed and award-nominated run at The Hope Theatre in London, The Tempest will sweep across the country accompanied by relentless energy, breakneck costume changes and sparkling comedy.

“Bursting with energy and a laugh a minute…the most fun I’ve ever had at a Shakespeare production.”

What is the right advice and when and how should you deliver it? This witty new show of song and animation premiered to outstanding reviews at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tales of the hapless, feckless and foolish stand as warnings; meet Cherry the Amazing YoYo Girl, an obsessive dieter caught between gluttony and vanity; Chanel The Labelled Girl, whose criminal obsession with designer clothes leads to her grisly demise; and
fickle Princess Sylvia who only realises she could have had anything and anyone when it’s just too late.

Arabella Dair’s greatest pleasure was to share but she discovered that youth, looks and cheesecake are soon gone but cyberspace goes on and on. Makes you laugh and think in equal measure.
