Oakham Town Council Annual Return 2016 - 2017
Oakham Town Council Annual Return 2016 - 2017
It is hard to believe that back in 2015 the external auditor recommended to
Oakham Town Council purchased new accounts software.
Oakham Town Council agreed to spend thousands an accounts package
special designed for parish councils.
The accounts package is simple to use, but it took Oakham Town Council nearly
two years before they started using it.
We were told the accounts package can produce reports at a click of a button
I wonder why the accounts report attached to the annual return for 2016 - 2017
is manually typed and contains date and spelling errors.
Also why does the council think it does not have to publish the amount of public
money it paid the former Clerk to leave?

Quarry Railway Day & Take A Trip On The Rutlander Train
Quarry Railway Day & Take A Trip On The Rutlander Train
Monday, May 29th
This is your chance to see the action of an authentic ironstone quarry recreated by museum voluteers and our fleet of locomotives. Quarry machines will be in operation simulating the loading of wagons. The wagons will be shunted to form a train, and then the 'full' wagons will be exchanged for a new train of 'empties'. And of course, there will be the ever popular 'runs up the bank' with trains of hopper or tippler wagons being hauled up the 1/60 gradient - see our locos working at their hardest and best!
Also in operation will be The Rutlander Train, providing passenger brake van rides - Pay once and ride all day!
Visitors can also view our fleet of historic ironstone locomotives in the recently opened Simon Layfield Exhibition Centre which now houses the greater part of the museums collection. The Woolsthorpe Workshop is also open for visitors to see progress of ongoing locomotive restoration.
The Sundew Cafe will be open to provide visitors with hot and cold beverages and snacks.

Liberal Democrat Rutland County Councillor Kevin Thomas resigns due to work commitments
Liberal Democrat Rutland County Councillor Kevin Thomas resigns due to work commitments
Rutland County Councillor Kevin Thomas has resigned as Ward Member for Whissendine with immediate effect.
Councillor Thomas has represented residents in the Whissendine area since March 2016 but no longer feels able to fulfil his role due to growing work commitments.
Its always a great shame when a Councillor has to resign due to changes in circumstances
Mr Thomas has learnt his work would soon take him abroad and he did not want to be
seen in the press as a Councillor who was not properly serving his ward residents from a foreign
country which has happened in some of parts of the country.
It is a shame Cllr Joyce Lucas of Oakham Town Council does not consider the need to
review her commitment to the residents of Oakham instead of choosing to miss the last
four town council meetings.
