A MEETING OF OAKHAM TOWN COUNCIL’S STAFFING COMMITTEE WEDNESDAY 2ND MAY 2012 AT 7.00PM VICTORIA HALL, 39 HIGH STREET, OAKHAM AGENDA
What I cant understand is why when our Mayor publicly stated her disapproval regarding the Clerks
constant absences, this still continues many months on.
The Council finally agreed a sickness policy, after many years of not having one.The policies look good on paper, but they are no good if you don't put them into practice.
The tax payer is paying the Clerk over the odds and is getting a raw deal. He himself said very few residents
visit the office and this I am sure helped with the decision to open the office less.
When the clerk is often absent the role is completed by his part time assistant I think that sums up his overpaid role.
Over 80% over the precept goes on administrating the council and most of that is made up of the Clerks wage. If this was a commercial company the Town Council would have been put into administration years ago.
I also find it difficult ot understand why when the Clerk is off sick on a Monday or Friday he can visit the office to print a notice of explanation and post it on the office door?
Many residents maybe surprised to know the Clerks role is full time and his take home pay is over £2,000 a month.
If you have ever had the pleasure of speaking to him on the phone when you have mistakenly called the town council instead of the county council, you may have experienced his rather rude telephone manner, which I personally have witnessed on a number of occasions.
