Conservative Councillor Gene Plews told to consider carefully the appropriate use of language in communications

Conservative Councillor Gene Plews like to call me a idiot using publicly owned computer systems.

The Standards Board at Rutland County Council ruled this was political tit for tat last year. I see this as an abuse of public property and asked for a review of the complaint findings.

Today I received an email from Rutland  Council published below. That email states nothing much has changed accept the addition of the reminder that all Councillors should consider the language used in communications. It beggars belief this Conservative councillor can get away with his thuggish behaviour and then give a statement to the police accusing me of harassing him because I publish the finding and call him a bully. I call him that because I feel bullied by him and his mates.

Hello Mr Brookes.

Further to your request made to Theresa Stokes on Friday, I attach a composite document of the relevant papers which I hope meets your needs.

Coincidentally, the Review Sub-Committee met on Friday to consider your complaint afresh.  A formal Decision Notice will be sent as soon as possible, but I can advise that the original assessment decision was upheld.  However, the Sub-Committee did ask me to remind members as a general point to consider carefully the appropriate use of language in communications.

Regarding the Annual Town Council meeting tomorrow, it is looking unlikely that any of the independent members will be able to attend: one is away, one is recovering from an operation and a third has a prior commitment.  What I would say, and you have heard it from me before, is that if you do decide to attend, simply make a note of anything directed at you which you consider inappropriate and avoid getting involved, however much you might feel provoked.

Regards
Geoff Pook
