Who is going to pay for the consultation and implementation of such a daft scheme?
Fortunately the Town Partnership made up mainly egotistic buffoons, not just content with their unelected roles as Town Councillors, have no powers to make such changes. I and many others hope highways ignore their daft suggestion. But then as the Deputy Conservative Rutland County Council Leader Cllr King sits on the Partnership anything could happen.
I am sure the partnership only repeatedly raises such controversial issues, just to let people know this important institution still exists?
I was pleased to see the following comment on Oakham People. Its not often I agree with this person.
"What a daft idea. Crazy at best. There has been talk
of this for ages and to be honest it seems the decision was made a long
time ago by some maniac on the partnership. One way in Oakham? What will
that prove?
I thought we already have Sunday opening anyway. How much more Sunday opening can we possibly have and why?
Come on Oakham stand up against the ludicrous idea."

I must say, not all Town Partnerships are rotten and dead like Oakham's.
I enjoyed my 6 mile trek to Uppingham, (Public transport none on a Sunday. It is also poor the rest of the week throughout Rutland) for the Uppingham Feast organised by the Town Partership A splendid fun event.
I even saw town Councillors sweeping the street. The few male Conservative Rutland County Councillors as you would expect stood around admiring the work of others. Some of those even pollute Oakham Town Partnership. I wonder how long the ordinary nice folk of Uppingham can hold onto its partnership before it becomes bogged down by same same stupid schemes Oakham Partnership dreams up.
Oakham Town partnership is also suggesting all shops trade on a Sunday, we read in the Rutland Times traders have tried it all before and it does not work.
Research has proved Sunday trading has little or no effect on trading figures.
Is it not a tourist attraction in its own way, if tourists find a cafe or a place to eat is open and after that they go window shopping in a town were traders take a day of rest. unlike a city where nothing stops?
And if like Cllr Dewis suggests they all visit from Rutland Water, I doubt if they have much spare cash if they have paid Anglian Water to park the car and bought a few gifts from the gift shop...
