The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Bandstand Oakham
Oakham Town Council renamed the Finch family bandstand to commemorate the Queen diamond jubilee.
The suggestion was put forward by Town Councillor Jayne Woodcock, after a suggestion was made by
a fellow town partnership member,. who like me thinks the new signs are horrible.
Its my understanding the Queen did not want councils spending money on rubbish like this and was hoping council and other organisation would donate to the Diamond Jubilee Trust which I understand may be offering scholarships to disabled people.

The flag pole is also a gross waste of money at the moment it is flying the union jack which I don't object to.
The Town Council is hoping to fly a green flag awarded by Tidy Britain after the council pays them to Judge the park, rather like loo of the year. I wonder if we will soon see a flag flying celebrating loo of the year outside the Church Street loo's?
The new park name signs are also a gross waste of money. members of the public have compared them to road signs. Typical utilitarian council signs was another description. lets hope the green flag judges liked them for that was the only reason £200+ was spent on each sign.
