For the eighth year running, the quintessential English country village of South Luffenham, in the heart of Rutland, will be opening its gardens to visitors from near and far.
The weekend of Friday 29 June through to Sunday 1 July will be the place to be for lovers of art, flowers and gardens.
On Friday 29 June a pre-view evening will be held in St Mary’s Church from 7-9pm. Exhibits by local village artist Peter Barker and botanical artist, Barbara Clemence will be on view, with wine, soft drinks and canapés served throughout the evening. There will also be flower arrangements based on the theme of ‘the works of Dickens’, some of which by last year’s winners of The Chelsea Flower Show’s Silver Gilt award.

On Saturday June 30th there will be art and flowers in the Church from 2–5pm with teas served in the Village Hall.
On Sunday 1 July from 1–6pm the village will also host a day of open gardens. Many of the local village people will be opening their gardens, which range from the more contemporary outdoor spaces that combine the old with the new, to the smaller cottage gardens, where local homeowners show how creative they can be with pots, troughs and patios.
As well as meandering through the gardens, visitors can take tea and cake in the Village Hall or enjoy an ice cream, with cakes and plants on sale.
A tombola and a ‘not to be missed’ raffle will take place with the prize of a holiday for two on the Algarve in Portugal with flights included, with various hampers and other prizes to win.
Helen Saunders, one of the organisers of the village’s weekend events, said: “Our Open gardens event gets more visitors every year and everybody that comes has a thoroughly good time. It’s very much a family friendly village, so children are most welcome.
Tickets for the Sunday are priced at £5.00 and can be bought on the day at the church.
