Oakham Town Council spend £250 supporting this project. Sign Obstructing Oakham in Blooms Peacock

Oakham Town Council spend £250 supporting this project.
Sign Obstructing Oakham in Blooms Peacock

This photograph does not really show just how imposing this
new sign paid for by local tax payers and others is

Why it had to be purchased in the first place or placed in front
of Oakham in Blooms good work I don't know?

The sign was unveiled  this afternoon.

I will make no comment about the two union jacks stuck
up the peacocks bottom!

Oakham in Bloom Contacted me regarding this post
I have amended it.

The original post stating Oakham Town Council paid for the sign was based on a letter sent from
Oakham in Bloom requesting an additional £250 at the time their grant application of £2000 was considered and awarded on the 11th April 2012. The £250 was considered as a separate request and not part of the grant application.

I still say the sign is ugly and spoils the good work of the organisation.

I am not sire why Oakham in Bloom needs to apply for grants from the Town Council.

The Town Council should just pay for the lot instead of juggling funds around, it currently grants money each year and then pays for plants, baskets and the watering.

the chairman is a Town Councillor

Hi Martin,

Thank you for blogging about the work of Oakham In Bloom, however the information in relation to Oakham Town Council is incorrect.

The donation received from Oakham Town Council was part of a grant application by Oakham In Bloom to the Council and was spent as part of the project to install and plant up the peacock.

The sign itself was funded by Oakham In Bloom as a part of the peacock project to provide recognition and thanks for all sponsors, supporters and volunteers - it was not funded by Oakham Town Council. The siting of the sign was the decision of Oakham in Bloom.

Overall the peacock project is an Oakham In Bloom initiative, not an Oakham Town Council one.

We would be grateful if you could amend your post as it may mislead your readers as to Oakham Town Council's involvement.

Kind Regards
Lisa Batty
