Oakham Town Partnership Car Boot Sale Photographs

PCSO Jay Cooper (6869) looking for something furnish empty offices at Oakham Police station...

Oakham Town Partnership Car Boot Sale was held in Burly Road Car Park Oakham on Sunday.
The weather was fine, the public seemed to be elsewhere.

The Rutland Lions and The Town Partnership pinned the blame solely on me! It was suggested by the Lions, I had stolen the large advertising banner costing the partnership £100. Cllr Dewis chairman Oakham Town Partnership and Oakham Town Councils Mayor said the police have been informed. I await a knock on my door from Leicestershire's worse and possibly another three hours of police interview.

I sent a note to the police letting them know, I never saw the banner or removed a banner. I am fully aware of the CCTV camera in the area it is claimed the banner was displayed. Although Cllr Locket has reported the failings of Oakham CCTV, I would not know if that camera was effective or not.

I suggest they look to Oakham in Bloom who complained at the Town Meeting about the many advertising banners that make our town untidy.

Cllr Joyce Lucas recently wrote a moan in her space given by the Rutland Times, on the subject of untidy banners. I was pleased to hear a town partnership member saying they like to read her column when they want a good laugh. On Saturday a member of the public and myself were talking about the poor quality and content of the wafer thin Rutland Times and how much space is given over to political figure like Cllr Lucas up to MP Alan Duncan. there leaving comment was at least he has a brain.

After some chatting on Sunday with a Town Partnership member it was felt the lack of a listing in the local press may have contributed to the poor turn out. The next boot sale will be held in August, the member of the partnership did not know the date. They pointed out the Partnership runs the events to raise funds for sporting events throughout the summer for young people.

In the past I have asked to give my time on the Town Partnership and when I attended a meeting in answer to a press appeal. I was lied to they said the press had published the wrong information and people form the community were not required. This of course messed it up for them as they wanted to co-opt a nice chap from Voluntary Action Rutland a community organisation. They had to turn him away. They co-opted him as a community member at the next meeting. The Town Partnership is mainly made up of unelected Town Councillors and an awful Conservative deputy leader Terry King, it is sprinkled with a few nice people from the community. Reading Oakham People over the months the partnership like the councils is not popular with the people of Oakham, I sense this is mainly due to its undemocratic membership and dictatorial management style.

I was wondering if now the public is aware the partnership has been taken over by the Town Council, the public are avoiding their events like they seem to do when the Town Council puts on a event.

The biggest losers of the day were the Rutland Lions a charity
who spent money to sell refreshments and food the lack
of customers meant sadly they made a loss.
