Olympic Torch Celebrations

The iconic Olympic flame will be coming through Rutland on the 3rd July, on its mammoth journey
around Britain. The Olympic Torch Relay route has been planned so that the Flame will come within
ten miles of 95 percent of people in the UK.

The detailed route for the Olympic Torch Relay, announced by organisers (LOCOG), shows
the Flame crossing Rutland Water by boat, before returning to land at Normanton Church.
The route goes through the following areas of Rutland...
Langham

The Torch is in Rutland mid-afternoon on Tuesday 3 July 2012 and will arrive into Langham at
approximately 14:18, starting opposite Manor Lane to the north of the village. It will then travel
along the main A606 Melton Road through the centre of the village, before finishing opposite the
 entrance to Langham Engineering.

Oakham
The Torch Relay will then head to Oakham starting at 14:29 between Catmose College and
Rutland County College. It will then head along Barleythorpe Road, across the railway crossing
and then along Melton Road and High Street. It will then turn left outside the council offices onto
Stamford Road before finishing opposite the entrance to Edmonton Way.
Rutland Water

The Olympic Torch Relay will arrive at Rutland Water (Whitwell) at approximately 14:54.
It will be cross Rutland Water by boat arriving alongside Normanton Church at 15:32.
It will leave Rutland Water at 15:42.

Uppingham

The Olympic Torch will arrive in Uppingham at approximately 16:15 and will start on the
A6003 Ayston Road (opposite The Beeches). It will then travel into the centre of town,
turning left onto High Street East at the junction with Market Place. After travelling along
High Street East, the Torch Relay will finish at the start of Glaston Road.

Come and celebrate its’ arrival in Rutland on the 3rd July with the events taking place in the county
– further event details will be released at a later date, but it’s going to be a great atmosphere in
Rutland so you will be able to look back on the time you saw the
Olympic Torch in England’s smallest county!
