Caribbean Carnival Leicester Leicestershire Police is offering advice

Advice ahead of Caribbean Carnival

Leicestershire Police is offering advice to people planning to attend the Caribbean Carnival in Leicester this weekend.

Thousands of people are expected to join in the Carnival and parade through the city centre on Saturday (August 4). To help keep them safe, Leicestershire Police has been working closely with the event organisers and other agencies involved.

Superintendent Stuart Prior said: “The Caribbean Carnival is an important event in the city’s calendar and has been running now for 27 years. We want everyone to enjoy themselves on Saturday and we have been working closely with those involved in the Carnival to do all we can to ensure it passes safely.

“Last year around 20,000 people attended the event at Victoria Park and no crimes were reported and no arrests were made. However, as with all events of this nature, there are some simple steps that we urge people to consider to reduce the risk of them becoming a victim of crime.”

Leicestershire Police offers the following crime prevention advice:
  • Don't bring your valuables or wear expensive jewellery
  • Keep your belongings with you at all times and keep bags securely fastened
  • Don't carry too much cash
  • If you have to use your mobile phone remain aware of your surroundings. Try not to use your phone in crowded areas or anywhere you feel unsafe.
