money, with no resolution or budget to do so.
FOI of information reveals Oakham Town Council is paying for advertising Town Partnership events.
The Town Partnership advertises the Council's telephone number for all enquires.
The Chair of the Town Partnership is also the Mayor Cllr Alf Dewis the Treasure of the partnership is Cllr John Nowell.
You would think now that the Council has adopted the new code of conduct, these Councillors would be
a little more cautious, when you consider that most breaches involving money are now considered criminal.
Of course we know this won't effect councillors here in Oakham.
After Cllr John Nowell placed a grant application before Oakham Town Council, this was found to
include fabricated documents. He always failed to disclose he and his wife were directors of the company
he claimed was a charity.
Leicestershire Constabulary claimed they investigated and Inspector Mystry is satisfied that a councils complaint procedure meant for staff would satisfactorily deal with the Councillor. A big joke!
The Town Council refuses to give a list of Jubilee sponsorship. If they could discipline a Councillor I doubt
if they would,,,
Email sent to Oakham Town Council and FOI response from Oakham Town Council
Martin Brookes.
Dear Oakham Town Council
Please can the council explain why the tax payer is paying for Oakham Town Partnership Advertising and other needs?
Could you also explain where within the local government act, it permits the town council to fund Oakham Town Partnership without a resolution to do so.
For example the use of council staff for telephone enquiries and public council services apparently at no cost to the Partnership.
I believe no resolution has been passed by the council to offer this support. There is also no budget set for these additional costs.
Therefore this support of the Oakham Town Partnership could be illegal.
Since The Mayor Cllr Alf Dewis, Chairman of the partnership lost funding and administrative support from Rutland County Council. It looks like it has been
very convenient for his partnership to dip into Oakham Town Council's finances and
service as and when it pleases the partnership.
