Oakham Town Council Jubilee Sponsorship FOI
Dear Mr Brookes
The reason why I believe your request
for information falls under the provisions of the Data Protection Act is
that one donation to the Jubilee Party was made by an individual, not a
company or other organisation. Your request
asked for the names and addresses of all sponsors and the amounts
donated. Yours sincerely Richard WhiteClerk to Oakham Town Council
My response
Dear Richard,
My request is a freedom of information request. Not a data protection request.
For example I wrote to companies house about Cllr Dewis using the name
of dissolved company Alf Dewis Consultancy. I also blogged this.
Mr Dewis wrote to Companies House asking for the letter I sent using FOI.
Companies House considered data protection and sent me a letter
enclosing a copy of the letter they intended to send out to him, asking
me if I minded if they included my personal details.
I believe you should be sending me all the details I have requested
under FOI and as part of the data protection act you could redact the
personal donors details or you could contact them to seek permission to
disclose.
In your reply you have failed to answer the most important question, why
has the sponsorship money and its expenditure not been disclosed in the
councils accounts?
I believe this is a serious situation that should be looked into. Once
collected this money became public money and not Cllr Haworth's.,
therefore this money should be treated in the way financial regulations
require.
For example all money received by the council should be banked at the earliest point.
If this money had been banked and expenditure correctly recorded this
would show the over spend of the jubilee budget is far greater than
currently declared and I would not be asking the following FOI
questions, who are the sponsor and how much they donated?
From
Martin Brookes
