Oakham Town Clerk Richard White Financial Officer to receive help with his work
At last nights town council meeting, it was decided after some long discussions in which the
Mayor Councillor Dewis attempted to gain another responsibility councillors decided to
set up a working group to assist the clerk with his work, he is paid far to much for a poor
return and now he is to be supported by by two unpaid councillor who will have the
responsibility for producing the budget and overseeing other financial matters at the council.
I am told I should go easy on the Clerk because things have been difficult since his divorce.
Personally I think this explains his unreasonable behaviour when I was a councillor but it
does not justify it.
And it should not be used as a continuing excuse.
Cllr Adam Lowe Deputy Mayor said " Richard knows there is nothing we can do" "we can't sack him"
"now we have to set up a working group to do the work he is paid to do"
Personally I think the council should get tough and sack him, any hold he has over the council
does not justify the £2,000 + he takes home each month.
Cllr Lowe's comments reminded me of the past comments made by The former Mayor Sharon
Spencer who said "he goes home sick at the drop of hat if he is questioned in any way."
