Officers from Leicestershire Police’s serious collision investigation unit are appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision on the A47.

Uppingham man dies after a collision on the A47

Officers from Leicestershire Police’s serious collision investigation unit are appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision on the A47.

The collision occurred at about 4.31pm on Friday November 2 on the A47, just before the junction with the A43, in the parish of Tixover, Rutland and involved a green Vauxhall Astra and a red Toyota MR2 Roadster convertible.

The driver of the Vauxhall Astra received serious injuries and was taken to University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire, where he remains in a stable condition.
The driver of the Toyota MR2, Mr Iain McDonald (47) of Uppingham, received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Constable Kath Orr is investigating the incident, she said:  “The Vauxhall Astra was travelling along the A47 towards Peterborough and the Toyota was travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred, about 1.3km before the junction with the A43.

“If you were travelling along this road around 4.30pm on Friday (November 2) and witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand we would urge you to contact us.”
