Oakham Town Council To Consider Barleythorpe Boundary Change based of pure greed

Oakham Town Council To Consider Barlethorpe Boundary Change based of pure greed

This evening I was reminded of the Clerks comments relating to the new homes built on the old school
site on  Cold Overton Road, "it is good for the council because we don't have to provide any additional
services for these new homes but we gain from the extra precept income" that's council tax.

This evening the council said it would consider the option of requesting a boundary change which would
bring the new Hawksmead Development Currently within Barleythorpe into Oakham.

Reason given because this would increase the income from the precept.

I feel apart from the element of greed it is also an attempt to stop the village becoming big enough
to gain its own parish council.

Oakham Town Council would not need to provide any services for this development. The new residents
will have to endure the ongoing costs of a management company who will be looking after the open spaces
and parks, So why would or even should they pay anything to Oakham Town Council?

Cllr Dewis with inside knowledge of Rutland County Council said the possibility of this change has already been discussed  within Rutland County Council.

Whatever next will they be wanting to levy a charge on other surrounding villages?

This will be an interesting one to watch, I wonder if it goes ahead will the village of Barleythorpe
be split down the middle of the main road? Oakham one side Barleythorpe the other side?
