Tresham College Offers Half of Barleythorpe Road field to Rutland County Council on a 99 year lease.
Rutland County Council cabinet is recommending that the lease is sublet to Oakham Town Council.
Oakham Town Council have not yet decided if they want the land, which Tresham would expect them
to manage as an open public space.
When I served on Oakham Town Council, I proposed the council sort a lottery grant to purchase the
land as a public open space. This was immediately rejected by all members.
The matter is to return to the Town Councils agenda next week, 13th February 2013 for a decision.
Another example of the strange way both these councils work, because Rutland County Councils full
council is being asked to decide if they will lease the field and sublet it to the town council, before it
officially knows the outcome of the vote of the eight unelected town councillors. at its meeting on 11th February 2013
It is a great shame Tresham still feel the need to build homes on the other half of the field.
