A man has today been sentenced for his part in the death of an Oakham man in
September 2012.

Neil Corby, 42, was assaulted on the evening of Wednesday September 19, 2012,
when he had been drinking with several friends at his flat on Gaol Street.

Today at Leicester Crown Court, Jamie Alan North (33) of Glen Drive, Oakham was
sentenced to three years and four months for manslaughter and common assault

He had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.
Over the course of the evening several friends visited the flat and an argument ensued.

During this Neil was punched several times by North, who then left the property.
At around 7.30am the following morning (Thursday September 20, 2012) one of the friends
woke up and discovered Neil lifeless on the floor.

An ambulance was called and Neil was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Superintendent Neil Castle, the senior investigating officer; said:

“This assault was fuelled by alcohol and a long standing dispute between the victim
and the aggressor.

“North has admitted his part in the assault on Neil which resulted in his death.
I hope now this offers some justice to his family, it’s not been an easy time for the

family and I hope they seek some comfort knowing North has been dealt with by the courts.”
