Co-option of Councillors, Oakham Town Council

Co-option of Councillors, Oakham Town Council

Former Oakham Mayor exposes her dignity

At this Wednesday's Oakham Town Council meeting co-option is on the agenda.

Appendix B reminds Councillors that people wishing to be co-opted onto the council
can not influence support from any member.

Interestingly there is no reminder to Councillors that it is also wrong for them to approach people
and encourage them to come forward for co-option.

This also includes the Clerk he once wrote various notes to a former town councillor and
Mayor shown above.

Mrs Susan Tyers one of the Councillor who resigned when I was elected, back in 2010 she walked out of the first meeting I attended it was quite a performance.

She stated in her letter to the council a few months later when she wanted to be co-opted back on to the council, "Richard has been sending me notes regarding co-option" at the time I asked if  that was appropriate. Mrs Tyers then withdrew her application.

Rules don't apply to Oakham Town Council unless you make a fuss.

Lets hope no rules have been broken this times as the council seek to co-opt once more?
