Residents are set to go to the polls on Thursday to vote for their new town councillor.

Three candidates have put themselves forward for the Oakham South East seat and the election takes place on Thursday.

The three candidates are Stan Stubbs, of Noel Avenue, Oakham, Leanne Martin, who lives in Mallard Court in Oakham, and former town councillor Martin Brookes, of Willow Crescent, Oakham.

Mr Stubbs is a pensioner who moved to Oakham 17 months ago. Having served as chairman of a parish council and as a county councillor in Wiltshire, Mr Stubbs said he will work to improve facilities for young people and reduce anti-social behaviour.

Ms Martin, 27, has two children, Esme, two, and Marianne, three months, and is on maternity leave from her job as a teacher. She too wants to address groups and community projects for younger people in the area.

Mr Brookes has lived in Oakham for seven years and is unemployed. He hopes to serve the community and offer value for money to taxpayers.

The polling station is the Rutland County Council offices, Catmose, Oakham, and people can cast their vote from 7am to 10pm.
