Rutland Councillors Approve Temporary Repairs To Oakham Swimming Pool

Rutland Councillors Approve Temporary Repairs To Oakham Swimming Pool

Rutland County Council closed the pool last month after it found serious problem with the roof.

At last nights extended council meeting councillors decided to go ahead with a costly temporary fix.

Oddly the swimming does not belong to Rutland County Council it belong to Catmose and is run by Stevenage Leisure the also run the sport centre and gym.

It is rumoured they are considering pulling out of Rutland.

The council has found itself entangled in a contract with Stevenage Leisure and all the time the pool
remains closed the council is subject to some difficult contractual obligations. I can assume this
can only mean the loss of further money. How is it councils often find themselves with these very
difficult contracts.

Rutland County Council is also in dispute with the company who provided a poor paint job and is refusing
to settle their outstanding account.

Councillors were given four options to consider.

I believe it was Councillor Gale UKIP who proposed a deferral of a month it was seconded but fell at the vote.

A second proposal was made by Cllr Gene Plews ex Tory, he proposed the council just closed the pool
and did nothing. That proposal was not seconded so fell.

So members returned to the original proposal and temporary repairs were approved a recorded vote
was requested 17 councillor voted for and there were six abstentions.
