What Happened To Rutland County College Silverware?
It appears Silverware awards that belonged to Rutland County College has
vanished.
Oakham Town Cllr Joyce Lucas has been speaking to the new Rutland County
Council about a new proposed student award.
In her report and request to be considered at this evenings meeting she asks the
council to consider the purchase of cup which will cost. £250. She tells councillors
the silverware previously owned by Rutland County College (Tresham) appears to have
disappeared before the new college was established.
Cllr Lucas reports The Council has the power to purchase the cup as it does not benefit
one particular student given that award will given on an annual basis.
As the college is not in the parish of Oakham I do not see how it is lawful. The law states
the precept can only be spent on projects that are a benefit for the residents of the parish.
Rutland County College has a large intake from surrounding counties and is not in the parish
of Oakham.
Cllr Lucas also suggests A £15 book token is likely to be awarded to two students of the college and Catmose college.
The Catmose College awards are great! £15 book token what does that buy these days?
When Cllr Lucas first left school you could possible buy an entire book shop.
Oakham Town Council could afford to create a much more significant award. When you
consider it spent over £6,000 watering the hanging baskets in the town last year for a very
short period of time.
