Police are hunting a ram raid gang which targeted a newsagents in Uppingham yesterday.
The three men drove a 4x4 vehicle through the front of Martins Newsagents in High Street East in the town between 3am and 3.30am.
Police said the men tried unsuccessfully to steal a cash machine inside the shop.
Two cars parked next to the shop were damaged when the men drove the 4x4 through the front.
The men left the vehicle at the scene and escaped in a Volvo car. It was recovered a short distance away.
Both vehicles had been reported stolen and fitted with false number plates.
A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman detectives were appealing for witnesses.
