Commonwealth Day
Rutland will be taking part in a nationwide celebration of Commonwealth Day on Monday as 500 flags are raised simultaneously across the country.
The unique event, taking place at 10.00am on Monday 10th March at the council offices in Oakham, marks the first time ever that local authorities and civic dignitaries, community groups and charities have joined together in local flag raising events and ceremonies of dedication to mark Commonwealth Day.
A specially written Commonwealth Affirmation will be read out at each ceremony, including Rutland, before the raising of the Commonwealth flag at 10am on Monday 10th March 2014, led by the Chairman of Rutland County Council, Charlotte Vernon.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
