A Service of Commemoration to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the
First World War, All Saints' Church Oakham, Photographs video later post.

I often wonder why it's mainly Tory Councillors who attend our county events.

The Very Revd Charles Taylor, Dean of Peterborough

The Dean gave the sermon, he referred to various conflicts since world war one.
He said the obvious 'it would be obscene to celebrate war, it was correct to
commemorate in this way an act of remembrance and reflection'

He justified bringing politics into the pulpit, as politics and religion are often the
ingredients of war.

He reminded the congregation present that the decision to
crucify Jesus was political because he was described as the King of the Jews.
There were also questions about whether war was just.
