Rutland First World War Commemoration Parade, took place on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd August 2014. its a pity it rained.

Starting from Oakham School’s Kilburn Road Recreation Ground, the parade of Cadets from E Company, Leicestershire Northamptonshire and Rutland Army Cadet Force, joined by the Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry marched from Oakham to Langham.

The march was a commemoration of events 100 years ago.  Following the declaration of war on 4th August, just two days later members of the Oakham Company of Territorials (5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment) responded to duty’s call, and were given a rousing “send-off” as they marched out of Oakham en route for Loughborough, later to take their places in the trenches in France and Flanders.

The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland also joined the march.
