The Accrington Pals - Stamford Shoestring Theatre
Tues 16 - Sat 20 Sept 7.45pm
BY PETER WHELAN
“One of the best plays ever about the First World War” - The Guardian.
Set in Accrington in 1914 to1916 the fictional story is based on real lives of the women left behind during WW1; having to adapt to new patterns of life, facing financial and sexual deprivation, undergoing the social changes resulting from the absence of many men. Often funny, ultimately sad, the play paints a moving and powerful picture of civilian life during war-time.
Its unique quality is seeing war through the eyes of private soldiers and their women rather than officers and their ladies.
An amateur performance by our resident theatre company.
