Police officers from Rutland and Leicestershire police investigated over allegations of social media abuse
Thirteen officers are involved
Police officers and staff from Rutland and Leicestershire Police have been investigated for breaching social media guidelines thirteen times in the last five years.
The figures obtained by the press association show that over 800 police officers or police staff across the country have been investigated for incidents on sites like Facebook and Twitter...
Thirteen members of the Leicestershire force, which of course covers Rutland have been investigated.
In nearby Lincolnshire, just two.
Of the eight hundred instances overall, the Press Association say one in ten ended in a resignation, dismissal or retirement...
The Chief Executive of the College of Policing has issued a statement in response to the figures.
In it, he makes clear that the vast majority of officers do uphold the guidelines issued to them, and that any incidents of misconduct will be dealt with appropriately.
My experience is officers can do and say what they like on-line and in court. With little fear of any disciplinary action being taken.
You won't read anything about these cases in our local paper because just like the local councils the local police have influence over the content, so its no surprise all the staff are losing their jobs as readers and advertisers desert them.

Leicestershire Police won't comment on complaints so I'm not sure we can run a story unfortunately. However, I have asked about the investigation so do keep us updated if you hear anything else.
