In a little over a hundred years the building of canals, roads and railways by the engineers such as Brindley, Metcal, Macadam, Telford, the Stephensons and Brunel, together with their armies of Navvies, was to revolutionise Britain's transport system. This revolution not only faciliated industrial growth and urbanization but changed Britain's society and culture forever.
