Barleythorpe Road Oakham Field Oakham Town Council Rutland Tresham College

Barleythorpe Road Oakham Field Oakham Town Council Rutland  Tresham College

Oakham Town Council has now signed the lease for the remainder of Barleythorpe
Road Playing Field.

Oakham Town Council can not be thanked for this, because when the residents
expressed an interest in saving the whole field they showed no interest in saving
it, The council even turned down a request at a council meeting to seek ways of funding
to purchase of the entire field, I believe this was due to pressure from the Conservatives
at Rutland County Council. There was a large public support calling to save the field
a Facebook page was set up by local residents and was ignored by the local media
and council, unlike the one set up for the Christmas tree.

Tresham College sold the other half of the field as part of a package deal between
Rutland County County and Bellways homes. If Tresham College had not agreed to the
sale, Rutland County Council would not have succeeded with its sale of the former
parks school site to Bellway Homes.

The last green open space here in Oakham is now leased to Oakham Town Council
forced upon them by Rutland County Council because they did not want to be
responsible for its future upkeep.
