Improvements to CCTV in Oakham and Uppingham

Rutland County Council has approved a series of high-tech upgrades to CCTV systems covering Oakham and Uppingham.

The decision was made at a meeting on Tuesday 17th March, where Cabinet Members agreed to replace the current network of cameras with new, state-of-the-art equipment.

That is what they told us back in 2008 and each year they take money from us via
Oakham Town Council and the service has been terrible. A total waste of money.

A former Town Councillor who visit Melton Police was appalled by the set up afforded
to Oakham.

At a recent meeting on the presence of the police crime commissioner Tory Leader Roger
Beggy said the CCTV does not work.

Rutland County Council spent thousands of pounds installing the current system
that has never worked correctly.

My experience of the system is "the camera was looking the wrong way" "into the
sky" "we could not read the registration number" and I have heard plenty more from others.

Oakham Town Council have know for years the system is crap and not wanting
to upset Rutland County Council they have handed over thousands of pounds of
local tax payers money.

Rutland County Council even conned Tesco into providing a large sum of money
to add an additional useless camera in South Street.
