Liberal Democrat Group Formed on Rutland County Council

Liberal Democrat Group Formed on Rutland County Council

A third political group has been established on Rutland County Council, following the formation of Conservative and Independent groups last month.

I am not sure how Independents can be part of a political group, is that not a contradiction?
The Independent Group is led by Cllr Allan Walters, I wonder what will happen to the
group when one or more does not want to follow his leadership instructions?

Two Liberal Democrat Councillors have announced their intention to form a political group with immediate effect.

Helen Briggs, Chief Executive of Rutland County Council, said: “This is the third political group to be formed on the Council in recent weeks and means that all but two of our 26 Elected Members are now part of a group.

“When Councillors form groups they do so because they share common views and goals and wish to work together on the Council. They are still responsible for representing their respective Wards and their duties towards local residents do not change.”
