Sacrewell harvest festival Great North Road Thornhaugh PE8 6HJ

Sacrewell harvest festival

Saturday September 26th
Sunday September 27th

Join in Sacrewell’s celebration of the traditional harvest this September 26 and 27.

The area surrounding the centre’s 18th Century grade II* watermill, which reopened after a £1.8m restoration project in July, will be transformed into a hive of rural activity as we delve into food and farming at its finest.

Among the activities available will be milling, corn plaiting, apple scrumping and pressing, drop spinning and willow weaving…plus much more.

Sacrewell is working with a number of local organisations such as Peterborough Environment City Trust and The Green Backyard for a range of farming and harvest based activities and there’s still time to join in.

Marketing executive Megan Allen said: “We are still looking for rural crafters who are able to come along and share their skill with us for the weekend.

“Lace makers and folk musicians are high on our list of people we’re looking for and we want each event to be as interactive as possible. As an educational charity we want to be inspiring our visitors to give these crafts a go and maybe even take them up as a hobby themselves.”

Sacrewell is encouraging groups, families and everyone in between to make and bring their own scarecrow for a competition which will be judged over the weekend.

Mrs Allen added: “Entry forms for the competition can be downloaded from our website and we’ll be accepting entries throughout the week prior to the event so that they can all be displayed together.”

Sacrewell will also be getting ready to plant one of the fields farmed by its tenant farmers Riverford Organic using a horse-drawn plough which you'll be able to see as part of its free tractor tours taking place throughout the weekend.

There will also be lots of farm machinery on display throughout the weekend for visitors to have a look at and maybe even sit in.

If you’re a crafter and would like an interactive stall at the Harvest festival, please e-mail info@sacerewell.org.uk for details.

Sacrewell is open from 9.30am – 5pm every day. Under twos visit free. Some activities may incur a small surcharge.
