Leicestershire Police mention this case at CCTV meeting Oakham man defied child abduction order three times jailed by Leicester judge
At a meeting at Rutland County Council Offices about new CCTV a police officer said if
CCTV was working correctly in Oakham it would have helped in this case.
A man has been jailed for flouting a child abduction order banning a 15-year-old girl from entering his home.
The court heard the teenager was infatuated with 29 year old man.
But the court was told he could not stop her coming to his home and did not think he should be punished.
The man of Purdy Court, Northgate, Oakham pleaded guilty to three charges of child abduction although none of the offences involved him holding her against her will.
The girl had claimed to her mother that she was in a relationship with the man.
Her mother contacted the police who issued him with a Child Abduction Warning Notice.
The man admitted three charges of child abduction but denied that they had had an affair.
He also admitted committing common assault on her where she suffered a cut lip.
He also admitted assaulting his own father in a separate incident.
Phil Gibbs, for the man, said: "My client admits he breached the notices. But he does not feel he had done anything wrong as he had known her for a long time. He denies there was any sexual relationship. She was infatuated with him.
"The mother had lost control of this wayward girl."
The court heard that both the girl and her mother had refused to co-operate with the court case.
But Judge Robert Brown told the man: "I must make it clear that there was no sexual element to this case. But you were a 29 year old man and the girl was 15 and vulnerable. Your conduct amounted to child abuse. You denied your responsibility for what happened.
"You say you could not prevent her coming to your home. But you are the adult."
He jailed the man for a total 33 months.
He was also banned from working with children aged under 18.
