Cottesmore Hunt Appeal Oakham Town Council Ban Where do the Charnwood Green Party stand on Fox Hunting?

Cottesmore Hunt Appeal Oakham Town Council Ban

BY CHARNWOODGREENS ON NOVEMBER 30, 2015

What’s Happened to the Cottesmore Boxing Day Meet in Oakham?

For 80 years, the Cottesmore Hunt has met on Boxing Day in Cutts Close, Oakham – but in a decision that was greeted with shock by the Cottesmore Hunt and celebration amongst Leicestershire and Rutland’s Animal Rights community, Oakham Town Council have voted to ban the gathering this year.

However, the Cottesmore Hunt have launched an appeal against the decision, which they have termed a “wholly unexpected development” and there is now an urgent petition to press Oakham Town Council to keep the ban in place.

Where do the Charnwood Green Party stand on Fox Hunting?

The Charnwood Green Party wholly supports the Green Party National Policy for Animal Rights, which is categorically against the tradition of Hunting with Hounds.

Green Party Policy AR422: To extend the 1911 Protection of Animals Act to protect both captive and non-captive animals from unnecessary suffering. This will be used to prohibit hunting with hounds, shooting, snaring, coursing and various other abuses of our animal population. The Green Party is fundamentally opposed to all blood-sports. We oppose the killing of, or infliction of pain or suffering upon, animals in the name of sport or leisure, and will work to end all such practices.

What can I do to help?
You can sign the petition to keep the ban on the Cottesmore Hunt meeting in Oakham at change.org

Oakham Deputy Mayor Adam Lowe Breaks the Law Using Blue Lights on his van

Oakham Deputy Mayor Adam Lowe Breaks the Law Using Blue Lights on his van

another example of how our deputy mayor thinks he is above the law was witnessed
at the edge of the market place yesterday evening.

Cllr Lowe was once a special constable so I can assume he is still enjoying playing
the role of Oakham's Chief Constable or something like that.

One PCSO told me she thought the van was actually a police vehicle as number
of blue light flashed across the high street.

The law from another police force web site Leicestershire Police probably have
different law which permits ex staff and conservative old guard to ignore other
laws governing ordinary folk?

Lighting Offences:
  • Blue lights - Under the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989, it states "except for emergency vehicles it is an offence to fit a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp or device resembling such whether working or not"
  • Fog lights - For vehicles fitted with front fog lights (rear fog lights are also included), it is an offence to illuminate them unless visibility is seriously reduced, which is defined as driving rain, snow or fog with visibility less than 100 metres. Fog lights cause dazzle to other drivers and can attract a £50 non endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice.
  • Other lights - It is an offence to show a red light to the front of a vehicle (including a reflector) and a white light to the rear unless reversing. Once again these offences are dealt with by means of a £50 non endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice. It does not matter if the lights are mounted inside or outside the vehicle, just that the light can be seen from the outside. This could also include neon lights fitted under or on the side of a vehicle and red LED windscreen washer jets. Green lights can only be fitted on Medical Practitioners vehicles.

Leicester Animal Rights Petitioning Oakham Town Council

Leicester Animal Rights Petitioning Oakham Town Council
Leicester Animal Rights & Northants Hunt Saboteurs welcome the recent Oakham Town Council decision regarding the Cottesmore Hunt's Boxing Day Hunt. However, we note with concern with that the vote is not being accepted as the democratic decision that it is by hunt supporters and Deputy Mayor Adam Lowe. The Cottesmore Hunt have demonstrated that they are little more than an organisation of wildlife criminals who have been prosecuted for blocking a badger sett & linked to the breeding of foxes for sport 7 years after the creation of the Hunting Act 2004.
In the event of a re-consideration of the issue at their meeting on December 9th, we ask that Oakham Town Council reflect in their decision the overwhelming opposition to fox hunting as a sport, demonstrated in countless opinion polls, and ask members of the public to support us in our request by signing this petition.

Leicester Animal Rights welcome Oakham Town Council's decision concerning the Cottesmore Hunt email

Leicester A.R. (leicesteranimalrightsgroup@gmail.com)
To: enquiries@oakhamtowncouncil.gov.uk Cc: martinjbrookes@outlook.com
To Oakham Town Councillors,

We welcome your decision concerning the Cottesmore Hunt on 25/11/2015 especially the concerns raised of wildlife crime & animal welfare. You rightly noted the conviction of Cottesmore Hunt employee Dean Jones in September for obstructing badger sett entrances. This can result in badgers (a protected species) suffocating to death & is only done to prevent the escape of foxes from hounds. It is also worth noting that a League Against Cruel Sports investigation published in 2011 linked the Cottesmore Hunt to artificial earths designed to encourage fox breeding. The only explanation for this is that they intend to illegally hunt foxes & thus require high quarry levels. You rightly raised other concerns stemming from the Cottesmore Hunt’s event but as wildlife campaigners our focus is on protecting wildlife from needless persecution.

Research from many wildlife conservation organisations has found that the majority of wildlife species in the UK have declined & continue to decline, including the red fox whose current population is estimated to be 29% less than it was in 1995. As a result of this, we believe the traditions of hunting & destroying wild animals should be replaced with efforts to protect, encourage & restore their numbers. We hope you will honour your democratic decision and not allow the Cottesmore Hunt to meet on Cutts Close if this issue is debated again. We also hope on the grounds of wildlife protection they will not be allowed on any Oakham Town Council land this year or in any other year.

Yours sincerely,

Leicester Animal Rights

Some Comments from Petitioners:

It is up to us all to defeat these limp wristed, left wing, politically correct buffoons who wish to ban anything that smacks of tradition !!

We fight wars for democracy and freedoms of speech and expressions.the town council seem to ignore this and ignore the views and rights of the voters to force through their petty personal vendettas.yet they can spend thousands on a crappy skatepark next to a scheduled monument that had to be repaired before it was even open

From a Supporter Living in Brazil?

Traditions should be upheld and those councillors who fail to uphold them are misfeasant in public office and should be ducked and put in the village stocks for a day.

Should be the people of Oakham to say no!.Not a dozen or so councillors acting in a statzie manner

You must be joking! If this goes ahead we will not forget your actions. You are ruining the image of Oakham and you are there to represent us. Shame on you !

Rutland Council?

Rutland Council's decision stinks. It was clearly a stich up in a meeting that would appear to have been barely quorate. So much for democracy.

You must be joking! If this goes ahead we will not forget your actions. You are ruining the image of Oakham and you are there to represent us. Shame on you !

Yesterday I noticed a few tweets which were claiming the Hunts Petition was not a true
reflection of the wider community of Oakham and Rutland.

The Best is from Basil Brush it looks like Basil has become a city dweller.

The comment posted in my name is daft. Rather like Cllr Adam Lowes Claim he made
to the press.

I fortunately I did listen to the residents who approached me before the vote.
