Harington School Oakham Rutland Visit

Harington School Oakham Rutland Visit

This week I visited Oakhams newest and only six form college it's temporary home being a number of boxes situated within Catmose Campus.

The school is currently knocking down hurdles with the planning department at Rutland
County council to acquire permission to build a permanent building onsite.

I met with the head teacher who took me on a tour of the temporary classrooms.

It reminded me of the times I was at school and the head teacher would appear with a visitor
at the back of the class and give a brief introduction about the intrusion.

The School maybe small but it appears to be developing fast and becoming part of our
community here in Oakham the school run a stall at the Oakham Late Night Shopping event.
raising over £200 for the Anna’s Hope charity.

Two classes were being conducted at the time of my visit biology and psychology.

The head teacher discussed other classes which included politics, On the day of my visit
Rutland Radio news had contacted the school to find opinion on whether 16 year olds thought
they should be able to vote on european membership in 2017. some felt the answer was yes whilst others said no because they were not informed enough to make the decision.

I am pleased I accepted the head teacher's invitation.
