The building cost £7439 and opened for business in 1874 Former headquarters of the Leicestershire Banking Company which merged with the Midland Bank and became the HSBC

The clock in the banking hall was made by Dent’s of Southwark, also responsible for Big Ben. The portraits in the banking hall depict H Simpson Gee and Samuel Bankart, past chairman of the Leicestershire Banking Company and remain in place.

The architect of the building, was Joseph Goddard he was also the architect of the former HSBC bank at Uppingham Rutland and other branches in Wellingborough and Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

The building was purchased by a Leicester Family in 2011 and given to the Hare Krishna community.
