New Fencing Oakham Castle Oakham Rutland

New Fencing Oakham Castle Oakham Rutland

I have noticed Rutland County Council has started to erect the new fencing around the castle
wall in Cutts Close.

The new fence is going to be very low.

What interested me the most was the man digging the hole for the posts.

When Oakham Town Council wants to do anything here it has to pay for ancient
monument consent and when that is given we then have to pay for the digging
to be supervised an English Heritage requirement.

I spoke to the town council office about this and politely asked if Rutland County
Council had applied for the same permission and could they find out?

The answer was no I am not doing that.

I questioned this and suggested I should go direct to Rutland County Council.

This prompted a response and details of Rutland County Councils application
were read to me.

I still don't know if consent was given or if digging required supervision.

If there was any old treasures in this part of the ground they will most certainly
be smash with by the aggressive digging which is happening.

I think the office will try and find out about the consent because if English
Heritage has not required costly supervision of archaeologists that can be used
in future applications made by the town council.
