A woman was killed after being struck by a train near Oakham railway station late on Friday night.
The incident happened near he Brook Road level crossing a short distance before the station.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman has said: "BTP officers attended the line close to Brook Road level crossing,
Oakham, Rutland on Friday the 8th of January 2016 after a report that a person had been struck by a train.
"Officers from BTP attended the incident, which was reported to police at 10:05pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious."
He added: "Paramedics also attended but the female was pronounced dead at the scene.A file will be prepared for the coroner."
A spokeswoman for East Midlands Trains said; "The incident happened shortly after 10pm on Friday night at Oakham. Onward road transport was arranged for customers who were affected.
