Spring into Sacrewell
from Saturday, March 5th to Thursday, March 24th
The most wonderful time of the year at a farm is not, as the song would suggest, Christmas but in fact spring and at Sacrewell it’s no exception.
The bleat of lambs as they skip across the fields, surrounded by new wildlife and flowers is something we’re very privileged to witness every year and this year we’ll be celebrating the new season from 5 March.
Marketing and Events Executive Megan Allen said: “Spring into Sacrewell marks the start of our daily Lamb Feeding Show, which is an educational talk about our Cade (orphaned) lambs and how they’re raised, while our rangers feed and check them.
“This year we’ll also be introducing visitors to the pets in our Animal Village and allowing some handling of our rabbits, Guinea pigs and chicks. And we’re also expecting a litter of piglets during the spring too.”
The flocks of rare breed Lincoln Longwool and Jacob sheep will be in the maternity unit where the ewes and lambs are kept during and after birth and are located in the Shire Horse Stables.
Megan added: “As with all births, we can’t predict to the day when our lambs, piglets or any other animals will be born or hatch, so it’s always a wonderful day when the first lambs arrive. We have a sweep stake at reception every year to try and guess the date of the first lamb.
“If visitors would like to see our rare breed lambs I’d suggest they keep an eye on the website for an announcement of the first birth of the year.”
Spring into Sacrewell will take place every day from 5 March to 24 April.
Sacrewell will round up its springtime celebrations with a Spring Fair at the mill on 21 and 22 May which will feature sheep shearing demonstrations, Maypole and Morris dancing, plus more attractions to be announced.
Sacrewell is just off the A1/A47 at Wansford, Peterborough and is open from 9.30am to 5pm every day with camping and caravanning pitches available for overnight visitors.
Lamb feeding show times are:
10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm every day.
Price: Normal admission applies
