Oakham Centenary Commemoration Proposal for a permanent tribute here in Oakham

Oakham Centenary Commemoration Proposal for a permanent tribute here in Oakham

One of the things I found since the 2015 election is how much better the majority
of Rutland County Councillors are.

They new Councillors don't write and tell me to piss off or get some one to attack
me via the postal system or social media.

I have not so far need to communicate with Cllr Foster until today and I was pleased
with his prompt positive response.

If In put this to Oakham Town Council I doubt if there would be any support and
I would not be permitted to join any working group so I am taking this task on as
a resident.

Dear Cllr Foster,

centenary commemoration

I am writing to you as the Armed Forces Champion for Rutland.

I personally do not think Oakham has done enough to recognise the importance of
World War One.

Only two people attended the war memorial to on the national day of commemoration
of the battle of the somme.

I would like to put the following suggestion to you for consideration.

I am afraid it is not something that I feel Oakham Town Council could do so I am
not asking them even though I am a member of that Council.

Proposal:

Install a small commemoration railing in Burley Road Oakham.
Oakham In Bloom to revamp the flower bed behind it.

Rutland County Council own a wall on the boundary of the
Burley Road Car Park and the flower bed nearby.

I believe the railing was removed during war time like so many
I wonder if it could be replaced and the regiment badges of
those who served in world war one attached to the railings
to commemorate the end of the war.

I understand Oakham in Bloom is currently looking for a location
to create a project to commemorate the end of the war.

I would be happy to either meet with you or send you photographs
of the location.

I think funding could be obtained from the councils and military
charities. etc. a grant application could be made to the Oakham
Memorial Hall Institute.

I Look forward to hearing from you soon
