Ian's Views
Leicestershire County Council Group Leader, Simon Galton and his team of Councillors, have published an excellent manifesto for Leicestershire which I endorse fully and commend to you. I would wish to highlight 2 areas of particular concern to me.
1. Social Care Provision
Having worked for nearly 40 years in and around the NHS I really appreciate the role of Social Care. In Leicestershire this has been a disaster under the Tories. There is no back-up to the single provider in each area. The potential for a major crisis is huge and it will be vulnerable patients and hospital waiting lists that will suffer.
2.. Highways-
During the course of the last 12 months my wife has twice narrowly avoided a serious accident because of the poor state of the roads. She cannot be alone in what has happened to her.
Firstly, she tried to join the B6047 at a junction where the line of sight was severely limited by the height of the grass verge. She tried to edge her way out but only just managed to avoid a collision with a rapidly moving car. The county Council had forfeited safety over an attempt to save money. This must not be allowed to happen again. The verges must be cut on a regular basis to keep junctions safe.
Secondly, about 6 months after this first problem she severely damaged an offside front tyre in one of the many potholes that bedevil so many of our roads. The cost of repair was bad enough but I could not help thinking how much worse it might have been if she had lost control of the car.
This situation cannot be allowed to continue and the County Council must instigate a proper program of pothole repairs.
