Bank Holiday Family Fun Day at Oakham Castle Cancelled Oakham Town Partnership Let Down The Community
Oakham Town Partnership had been organising a family fun day at Oakham Castle to be held
this bank holiday Monday.
Two weeks before the event the Partnership told the castle it had no money to contribute
towards the cost of the free event they expected Rutland County Council to pay.
Now it appears the Town Partnership that does nothing you would expect them to do for
local business is now a failed events organiser.
The claim they have no money could be true as the statement of accounts filed
at Companies House in May 2017 states they only had £11420 in the bank.
What concerns me is this organisation has received thousands of pounds of public
money and the former Oakham Mayor Alf Dewis persuaded the organisation that their
accounts don't need to be audited.
Why would any organisation not want to show they have spent public correctly?
Only the other month Oakham Town Council paid them £6000 of public money
to prop up the town centre manager. Who is very nice and not know by many.
She has not yet met the Town Council who have funded her for half a year.
Minutes of Oakham Town Partnership state they will run out of money early
next year.
I personally think it is disgraceful that Oakham Town Council keeps throwing
public money at this organisation without asking any questions.
I am hoping the Town Council will not give the partnership the £1000
we have budgeted for Christmas late night shopping. I would like to
the money spent on an event around the Christmas Tree Light Switch
On.
Could it be a case they are not willing to ask any questions, because the
majority of the membership who run the shambolic partnership are made
up of some of the worst former Oakham Town Councillors.
Who wont let anyone new join who does not agree with everything they
want?
If I was Mr Dewis who had to resign from Oakham Town Council for
unlawful spending of public money, I would want the partnership accounts
audited to show that what Cllr Lowe described was a mistake was not
continuing at Oakham Town Partnership.
