A elderly lady passed away on Thursday afternoon after inhaling smoke at a house fire in Brooke Road Oakham.
The fire is thought to have started from a cigarette in the kitchen.
Many people are likely to remember this lovely lady from the days she run a hair salon in the front
room of the property.
As part of the service's post-incident response procedure, fire crews will door-knock in the area on Sunday, July 22 to provide reassurance and advice on home fire safety to prevent any future similar incidents occurring.
"It’s essential that everyone stays safe from fire in their properties," said the spokesperson.
"We would like to encourage all residents in the neighbourhood to take advantage of this opportunity to familiarise themselves with what to do in the event of a fire, but more importantly, how they can prevent fires happening in the first place."
