Second Helpings
Multiple dates from Saturday, June 29th to Saturday, June 26th
Every Saturday up to 100 people sit down to eat lunch at Second Helpings, Barn Hill Methodist Church, in Stamford. Part of the Real Junk Food Project, Second Helpings is based on an environmental concept - preventing food, that is perfectly edible, from being blindly put in the bin.
Simply put: “Second Helpings feeds everyone and anyone. We don't just feed 'homeless people', 'the needy', or whoever. We feed everyone with a passion for helping the environment by reducing waste."
There’s more than the café to Second Helpings. The Bunker is open 4 days per week, Wednesday to Saturday, offering core products – bread, potatoes, vegetables and fruit. Plus there's the Community Fridge in Barn Hill.
It’s all on a 'Pay as you Feel' basis. No proof of identity required. If you can afford to, you’re encouraged to make a decent donation. But people can pay with money, offer their skills, expertise or, something that’s priceless, their time. New volunteers are always very welcome!
